OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FAITHFUL SERVANTS AND THE SECRET FRIENDS OF GOD

In this Sunday's Gospel reading, Jesus invites us to no longer be servants but friends.  The first requirement is that we be faithful to all His commandments, not by just simply avoiding breaking the Ten Commandments,  but following all commandments revealed to us by the rightful teaching authority of the Church.  May I direct you to a work by Blessed John of Ruysbroeck entitled The Adornment of the Spiritual Marriage.  In Chapter VII entitled "On the Difference Between the Faithful Servants and the Secret Friends of God", Blessed John gives an insight into this important difference.
