We ask all members of the Archdiocese of Toronto to pray for vocations this weekend, as four transitional deacons prepare for the sacrament of holy orders.

On Saturday, May 11, 2019, Cardinal Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, will preside over the ordination of four men who have spent years in study, formation, parish internships and, of course, much prayer and discernment. The ordination Mass will begin at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica — more than 1,000 faithful from around the archdiocese expected to attend.

Those who wish to support in a special way those who will soon be priests — and vocations in general — can attend a prayer vigil at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica on Friday, May 10, 2019, from 6 p.m. to midnight. There will be Scripture readings and reflections throughout the evening, and the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed.

All of the transitional deacons who can receive holy orders this weekend are originally from South America and have studied at the Redemptoris Mater Missionary Seminary of Toronto, on the grounds of Scarborough’s St. Augustine’s Seminary. Together, these seminaries are currently preparing 82 men for the priesthood.
